What is a managed service provider?

A managed services provider (MSP) provides all the services you need to support the IT of your business for one monthly fee. These services usually include unlimited support, help desk, patching, anti-virus, and more.

What do managed service providers charge?

A true managed service provide will charge either by user or by device. Services and quality can differ with the price you pay. The old adage…”you pay for what you get” is so true in this industry. On a per user fee you will see prices range from $100 to $300 per user per month. In some metro areas, you may see prices as high as $400 per user per month. Remember the provider that is charging more is probably providing more services and a higher level of customer service.

Are all managed service providers created equal?

Absolutely not. A true managed service provider only does managed services. For example, a true MSP is not charging you hourly support plus a month managed services fee. Some IT companies want to call themselves managed service providers in order to compete, but simply their business model is not capable of being everything to everyone.

How do I know I am working with a true managed service provider?

We get this question all the time. Here are some questions to ask
your IT Provider:

Do you offer your clients a block time support model?
–If they answer yes, they are not an MSP.
Do all the clients you have to be on your managed services package to work with you?
–If they answer no, they are not an MSP.
Do you charge extra for normal day-to-day support calls?
–If they answer yes, they are not an MSP.
